Sabalenka Extends Grand Slam Winning Streak at Roland Garros

No. 2 Seed Defeats Andreeva in First Round

Aryna Sabalenka's impressive run at Grand Slams continues as the No. 2 seed extended her winning streak to eight matches with a first-round victory at Roland Garros. Despite a challenging history at the tournament, Sabalenka has now reached the second round in Paris for the first time in her career.

Sabalenka's Dominant Start

Sabalenka wasted no time asserting her dominance on Court Philippe-Chatrier, dispatching Erika Andreeva in straight sets (6-3, 6-0). The Belarusian fired 21 winners and broke Andreeva's serve five times to secure the match in just 59 minutes.

Overcoming Past Struggles

Roland Garros has been Sabalenka's least successful Grand Slam tournament in the past. Before this year, she had fallen in the first week five times, including a first-round exit in 2023. However, she has now overcome her previous struggles to make a promising start in 2024.

No. 4 Seed Rybakina Advances

Sabalenka was joined in the second round by No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina, who defeated Diane Parry (6-1, 6-2). Rybakina is aiming to become the first player since Justine Henin in 2007 to win both the Wimbledon and Roland Garros titles in the same year.
